A Feminist Green New Deal for Scotland

A Feminist Green New Deal for Scotland

October 8, 2021, 14.00

Online

This SWBG policy dialogue is an opportunity to explore what a feminist green new deal would look like, and what it might mean for Scotland

About this event

In the lead up to COP 26, this event introduces feminist perspectives on just transitions. Presentations and discussion will ask:

  • what a feminist Green New Deal in Scotland needs to include;
  • what Scotland's global role in a just transition can be; and
  • what gender equality activists should be demanding from Government;

This event will include time for discussion between participants and space for Q&A discussion with all the speakers.

Speakers:

Claire Duncanson, University of Edinburgh will argue that, despite their potential, Green New Deals have considerable limitations when viewed from a feminist perspective, and suggest the changes that would be required to ensure a genuinely just and fair low carbon future.

Zarina Ahmad, SWBG Trustee - on the need for building intersectional inclusive change in Scotland and how to do it.

More speakers to be confirmed.

The event will be chaired by SWBG Trustee Rosalind Cavaghan.
