Tackling women's poverty as costs keep rising

October 4, 2022, 11.00
Online
The cost-of-living crisis is gendered and impacts will not be felt equally. Those on the lowest incomes will be hit hardest, and we know that women are more likely to experience poverty. This is due to having lower levels of savings and wealth, as well as restricted access to increase paid work in comparison to men due to caring responsibilities.
Join the Scottish Women’s Budget Group and guests to discuss what this means for women in Scotland, hear early findings from qualitive research being undertaken by the Poverty Alliance and the Scottish Women’s Budget Group and hear about the experiences of particular groups of women as costs keep rising.
Speakers
Sara Reis from the UK Women’s Budget Group will share recent analysis from across the UK on how women are being impacted by rising costs.
Fiona McHardy and Laura Robertson from the Poverty Alliance will share emerging findings from the research project – Tackling Women’s Poverty as Costs Keep Rising that hears from women on low incomes in Scotland.
Maddy Kirkman from Inclusion Scotland will highlight how rising costs are impacting on disabled women.
Amina Muslim Women’s Resource Centre will share what women who access their services are saying about the impact of rising costs.
There will be time to ask question and share perspectives on the day.
