November 29, 2023, 14.00 – 16.00

Online

Join the Scottish Women’s Budget Group for this online event where we look at the implications of the UK Government’s Autumn Budget Statement, drawing attention to the opportunities and implications presented to Scotland, and what we think the Scottish Budget should focus on from a gender equality perspective.

Hear from a range of experts including:

- Dr Mary-Ann Stephenson, Director at the UK Women’s Budget Group. Mary-Ann has been active in the Women’s Budget Group for over twenty years and was appointed as its first Director in 2017. Prior to this role, she was a freelance consultant specialising in women’s equality and human rights. She has also been Director of the Fawcett Society and a Commissioner on the Women’s National Commission.

- João Sousa, Deputy Director and Senior Knowledge Exchange Fellow at the Fraser of Allander Institute. In this role, João is focusing on fiscal issues. Previously, he was a Senior Fiscal Analyst at the Office for Budget Responsibility, where he led on analysis of long-term sustainability of the UK's public finances and on the effect of economic developments and fiscal policy on the UK's medium-term outlook

- Ruth Boyle, Policy and Campaigns Manager at The Poverty Alliance, Scotland’s anti-poverty network. Ruth leads The Poverty Alliance’s policy, campaigns and communications activities – working with members to secure changes to policy and practice. Prior to this, Ruth was the Policy and Parliamentary Manager at Close the Gap where she worked on women’s labour market inequality. Ruth led Close the Gap’s work on poverty and women’s low pay.

You will also have the chance to hear from our Coordinator, Carmen Martinez, as we discuss our key asks for the upcoming Scottish Budget informed by our work and members’ feedback.
