Each year the budgetary process starts in a mooted fashion with the process of pre-budget scrutiny. Just before the Scottish Parliament went into recess the newly formed Finance and Public Administration Committee launched its consultation seeking your views on Scotland’s public finances in 2022-23, how they have been affected by COVID-19 and how the next Scottish Budget should address the need for a fair and equal recovery.

On Thursday we will hear the Scottish Government’s budget plans. This budget, set in a time like no other, has a lot to live up to. It will lay the foundations of Scotland’s recovery from the economic impact of Covid-19. Attention must be on how the government plans to tackle the stark inequalities that have been so plainly highlighted during lockdown.

New developments at the Scottish Women's Budget Group
We have some exciting news to share from the Scottish Women’s Budget Group. We are now officially set up as a charity and have received a small amount of funding to help develop and grow the work of SWBG. This brings us into a new phase of development and growth for the group. Our aim is to continue to produce robust analysis to influence policy as Scotland starts its journey of recovery from Covid-19 and build on our long-standing approach of building knowledge and application of feminist economics analysis by offering training and creating accessible resources for our membership and beyond.
